News Bulletin on Cornerstone Funding Cuts
The City of Ottawa is engineering a radical restructuring of its services dedicated to helping homeless people move away from emergency shelters and into permanent housing with the supports they need to live independently. This is a result of a Canada-wide thrust mandated by the federal government and known as Housing First. As there is no new funding available to support the transition to the new way of doing business, current services are being pared back to bare bones to fund new programs. The result for Cornerstone will be a combined loss of $212,000 spread across The Women's Shelter, 515 MacLaren and McPhail House. The transition process will threaten the safety and quality of the services offered by Cornerstone. To learn more about the impacts of the cuts to Cornerstone and how you can help, join us at 314 Booth Street on March 5 at 4 pm. Please RSVP to Connie Franklin at 613-254-6584 x 503 or by email at the following connie.franklin@cornerstonewomen.ca
