ࡱ> 9;8g bjbjVV 0 r<r<LLLLL````t`~$LJ#L#LL8LLpE~N0~L$##~ : LET THIS BE A SIGN UNTO YOU GUIDELINES Almost thirty years ago the Bishop of Ottawa noticed, to his sorrow, that many of our churches had shabby signs, or signs with inaccurate service times, or no signs at all. Determined to help parish congregations reverse this trend, Synod began setting aside money each year for new signage projects, and invited all parishes to apply for a share when their own finances for such projects are limited. Our use of appropriate, readable, and informative signs is an expression of the life of our Church. Starting in 2011, new banners and new logos joined the list of eligible projects, and the welcome mat rolled out for Diocese of Ottawa standing committees as well as parishes. The Communications Subcommittee of the Diocese administers this program and screens all grant requests. Grants for eligible projects will be provided on a first come-first served basis until annual funds run out. The subcommittee reviews the program and these guidelines on a yearly basis. Who can apply? Any congregation in the Diocese of Ottawa or diocesan standing committee. We ask that you identify two contact persons for your project, and supply a copy of your congregations or committees resolution to erect new signage or commission a new banner or logo. What projects are eligible? New signage (including weather-resistant banners) on, in, or near a church, at a road intersection, and/or in a tourist information centre. While the fund does not extend to sign maintenance, it can support the addition of new or revised information. The fund can extend to accessibility and indoor direction signage and Anglican Church of Canada standard church identifiers. The design of a new committee, program or parish logo. How much subsidy is available? A grant of up to $700 per congregation or committee will be available for projects specified in an application. There will be no more than one grant per congregation in a calendar year. What other conditions must be met? Outdoor signs must meet all applicable provincial and municipal standards and sign by-laws. The congregation must do the research and make sure its plan is in compliance before submitting a grant application. The application must be submitted and approved before work begins. The congregation or standing committee must assume responsibility for all ongoing repair and maintenance. When will decisions be made? Grant applications will be reviewed at monthly meetings of the Communications Subcommittee and applicants will be notified within a week of the meeting. If a project is not funded, the congregation or committee is invited to review their proposal and the subcommittees comments and resubmit it.
