A plan of the Sunday School of St. Paul's, Shawville, to provide Sunday School supplies to remote, isolated
"This is a challenge sent to
you from a little and tiny, but
mighty parish way over across
the river and an hour's drive
from "civilization" in
Shawville, Quebec. The kids of
the Parish of Clarendon are purchasing
Sunday school supplies
and packing boxes to send to our
neighbours in Northern
provinces of Canada. We ask you to do the same....

From April 2010 Crosstalk
By Fiona Brownlee
Communications Officer
Council of the North
At the
end of
Oc t o b e r ,
2009 I visited
the
Parish of
Clarendon
to celebrate
the
induction of my step-mother, the
Rev. Mavis Brownlee, as the
incumbent of this lovely, rural
parish in Quebec. Part of that
visit included doing a presentation
on the Council of the North.
Remarkably, this parish is
where the Brownlee family is
rooted. My father took me
around to visit all the sites that
are connected to our family. I
was also introduced to a number
of distant cousins. A couple of
those cousins, Jennifer and Scott
Judd, are heavily involved as
part of the leadership of the
Sunday School of St. Paul's,
Shawville.
Recently, Jennifer approached
me through Facebook and asked
about putting together some
boxes of Sunday School supplies
for remote, isolated parishes.
It had really touched her that
many of these parishes could not
afford to purchase craft supplies
for their children.
My part of this was to ask the
Council of the North network
for addresses of parishes that
would appreciate such a gift.
Imagine our surprise when over
a dozen parishes responded with
a yes!
This gift from the Parish of
Clarendon is part of what ministry
of the whole church by the
whole church is about. This gift
will help those parishes provide
pastoral and sacramental ministry
to the youngest members of
their communities. Thank you to
all who participate from the
Council of the North and especially
from the children.
