Application in:  PDF format   HTML format

    1.  The purpose of the Let This Be A Sign Unto You program is to improve signage near and on Anglican church buildings. Our use of appropriate, readable, and informative signs helps to inform both the faith community and those seeking a faith community about the life of our Church.

    2.  To be eligible for a grant under this program, a parish will be placing new signs on or near its buildings, at selected road intersections, or in tourist information centres that:

    • may point the direction to the church building from an intersection, crossroad or highway

    • must meet applicable provincial or municipal standards

    • must be permanently mounted on the church or on church property and show:

      • the name of the church

      • “The Anglican Church of Canada”

      • service times for both summer and winter

      • contact number for further information.

    • may provide information to travelers wanting to locate a parish church.

    3.  Signs eligible for this program include:

    • Anglican Book Centre signs (cat # x 588 or x 599)

    • custom made signs

    • signs placed by municipal or provincial governments

    • signs in tourist information centres

    • any other suitable sign.

    • NB - Roadside signs must meet Ministry of Transportation Ontario or Québec standards and/or applicable minicipal standards. (MTO: 1-800-268-4686; MTQ: 1-800-772-3107)

    4.  The congregation or parish will assume responsibility for repairs and maintenance of any sign(s) provided through this program. Further, wood used for signs must be treated or sealed on both sides, to prevent deterioration.

    5.  A one time grant of up to $700 per congregation will be available. A congregation may receive only one grant in every 15 years. To receive the grant, work must be completed in the calendar year of the application.

    6.  A total of $7000 in grants will be available each year.

    7.  Applications for a grant will include:

    • name and location and/or address of the parish or congregation building

    • name and phone number of two contact persons

    • resolution from the Congregation or Parish Council meeting

    • description of the sign(s), including the text(s), location(s), and applicable provincial or municipal standards

    • estimated total costs for installations

    • estimated income from all sources for this project

    • any other pertinent information

    • for custom signs: the design, the name of the designer or company providing the design, who would do the work, and materials to be used

    • a description of existing church signage.

    Applications will be received by:
    The Communications Committee
    71 Bronson Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6G6

    8.  Not every application will necessarily be approved. Congregations or parishes are invited to wait until assurance of funding is received before proceeding with their project. The decision of the Communications Committee will be final, and, if a project is not funded, congregations are invited to review their proposal and resubmit it.

    9.  After January 1, 2002, only projects not yet initiated will be funded.

    10. The deadline for applications will be April 1in any year.

    11.  Grant applications will be reviewed at the April meeting of the Communications Committee and applicants will be notified as soon after the meeting as is practically possible.

    12.  Consideration may be given to applications received after the yearly deadline in order to meet special needs.

    13.  The Communications Committee will review the program on a yearly basis.
