Who we are
The Parish and Diocesan Services Committee oversees the
work of several full- and part-time professional employees
and many volunteers who operate a variety of services, resources
and links to networks to support parishes, congregations
and communities across the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa. The
committee oversees the work of all program committees and
implements new programs when they are needed.

help you make your church or community vision a reality.
Our dedicated staff is experienced, knowledgeable and friendly.
We can help you find the answer to organizational and other
challenges that face your congregation or community. We

Christian
Life and Nurture
With two professional
employees supported by several contract staff and an army
of volunteers, this busy, broad-based series of programs
includes training and resources for children's and youth/young
adult ministries, including workshops for adults on teaching.

'Synod Lite' is a parallel program to Diocesan Annual Synod to introduce young Anglicans to Synod.
'New Beginnings'
program, for youth in grades 7 - 9, addresses the spiritual
and social needs of this age group. It consists of weekend
retreats with youth, adult leaders and adult sponsors. learn more here
'Marriage Education Courses'
provide individuals with an educational model of marriage
preparation that enables them to grow as individuals.
Six pre-marriage and two second-marriage courses are offered
each year.
As well, Christian
Life and Nurture provides chaplaincy services to Ottawa's
Carleton University and Algonquin College, and through
the Anglican Fellowship of
Prayer assists individuals and congregations in the
life of prayer.
Communications
This committee
offers services across the diocese in finding new and creative
ways to communicate your parish or community activities
and programs to your audiences. The Communications Committee
also develops radio and TV ads, brochures and website resources
for the diocese. This committee also provides a number of
grants to assist parishes with local advertising and parish
signs.
The 'Ottawa
Pastoral Counselling Centre' offers a professional
service for people with personal, family or marital problems.
This is done in a Christian setting and with respect for
the spiritual values of those coming to the Centre.
The
Well/La Source provides a safe, supportive environment
and assists with access to community resources. The Well
offers a variety of resources and in-house presentations
on issues such as improving one's self image, to how to
stop smoking, coping skills and healing from abuse. As
well, health professionals are available to provide services
to women of The Well.
The 'Cornerstone
/ Le Pilier' [formerly: 'Women in Crisis'] program
operates a shelter at 515 MacLaren Street for homeless
women, as well as an emergency shelter that provides accommodation
and food for 43 women per day, and also advocates on behalf
of this vulnerable group. Volunteers help the women get
involved in recreational and skill-building activities
and accompany those who need assistance to appointments
and activities they could not otherwise access.
Ministry
Development
This active committee
provides a pastoral care team of some 90 clergy and volunteers
at the Ottawa Hospital - Civic Campus. It also organizes
basic training and continuing education for team members.
The Anglican Team consists of Weekday Visitors who try to
meet each Anglican patient, the Sunday Chapel Team who provide
a Eucharist Service each Sunday and bedside Communion to
those unable to come to Chapel, and an On-Call Team who
provide emergency coverage after hours and on weekends.
'Temple Pastures' has been
the Diocesan Retreat Centre since 1986, with a ministry
in revitalising the Christian practice of meditation.
The Outreach Co-ordinating Committee works on behalf
of the Diocese to promote world peace, justice and the integrity
of creation. Within this broad mandate, it studies such
issues as gambling, the separation of fathers and children,
and third world debt relief
The Eco-Justice Committee
addresses environmental and social-justice issues
through workshops and conferences.
The
Refugee Workgroup develops programs to support
refugees in the diocese. Several parishes have begun programs
to help refugees, including providing newcomers with hosts
who can help ease the transition to a new country.
The
Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF),
through fund-raising, education and advocacy, promotes
support for third world countries. Its 'Jubilee 2000'
program called for a one-time cancellation of debt for
third world countries.
The
Ecology and Theology Working Group, through
education and worship endeavours to make the church, its
members and all of society aware that God is creator of
all and that we must revere creation.
Crosstalk
Crosstalk is our diocesan newspaper. It is published
10 times a year and posts a number of articles from each
issue here
Screening
in Faith
We desire that our Church
be a clear symbol of the Kingdom of God—a safe and
holy place for all.Therefore it is the policy of the Diocese of
Ottawa that all, including clergy, staff and volunteers,
who come into contact with vulnerable people be screened
in a manner appropriate to the ministry or job being undertaken.
We

Resource
Centre
Individuals and parishes are welcome
to borrow from our collection of more than 1,500 books,
videos and educational resources. Topics include biblical
scholarship, parenting, a child's growing faith, ministry
development, parish evaluation and renewal and social issues.
A good selection of magazines is also available.
