Generation2Generation Past Events
Gen2Gen 2011
Participants in the 7th diocesan children's ministry resource fair held at All Saints' Westboro on Saturday April 2, 2011 were enthusiastic:
"Great day! Wonderful event as always . . . I look forward to [the next one]."
"The day exceeded my expectations"
"I learned many new ideas to take back to my church school and youth programs"
"Gen2Gen is always inspiring... lots of new ideas."
Two morning workshops were offered-one on Messy Church co-led by Deborah McMullen (St Thomas the Apostle, Ottawa), Jim Mullin (Hawkesbury & Vankleek Hill), and Sandi Scriver (St James', Perth) and the other -A Creative Approach to Church School Staffing Issues led by
by Barbara Robertson (All Saints Westboro). The three afternoon workshops included: "Puppets in the Pulpit" in which the Ven. Chris Dunn demonstrated ways of using puppets in storytelling; an opportunity to learn and perform a "Tableau Vivants" drama in which actors present a series of carefully posed still life scenes or living pictures to bring to life one or more scripture passages with Deborah McMullen; and a workshop highlighting the essential role of parents in "Effective Intergenerational Faith Formation" led by Lisa Chisholm-Smith using a video resource produced by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee. In a plenary session, Jennifer Camfield, catechist and trainer, inspired us with a story illustrating a Montessori inspired Good Shepherd approach to helping children come closer to God. The morning worship was enhanced by a visual interpretation of the traditional hymn "All Things Bright and Beautiful" using nature photos by Glenn Fox and afternoon worshippers appreciated the simplified Eucharistic prayer for use with children and the Tableaux Vivants interpretation of the Gospel lesson. "A great way to instill scripture, very visual", said one. Thirty-eight people from 18 Diocese of Ottawa parishes from seven deaneries including Pembroke and Stormont. Participants who came the furthest came from All Saints Petawawa and St Thomas' Anglican Church in Belleville.
